Mission X winners on a VIP visit to Space Expo
On Thursday, June 12, Space Expo hosted the proud winners of the international Mission X challenge for an exclusive VIP visit. Through Mission X, children up to age 14 train like astronauts by completing various scientific and physical tasks. The 15th edition was won by the 5th/6th grade class from Het Mozaïek primary school in Sluiskil. They scored the highest points out of 424 participating teams from across the Netherlands.
The budding astronauts received a festive welcome at Space Expo. Dressed in astronaut flight suits, they began a special VIP program. The day started with a classroom lesson on space travel, followed by the Great Space Show. During this interactive presentation, the children learned all about life in space through fun experiments. Afterward, the winners explored the museum and admired the highlights of Space Expo.
André Kuipers and diploma ceremony
A special moment was the personal video message from astronaut André Kuipers, who congratulated the class on their achievement. Following this, Space Expo director Frédérique van Steekelenburg presented the official diplomas. "This class participated in Mission X with incredible enthusiasm and dedication. They didn't just learn about space travel and science, but also about health and teamwork. We were thrilled to host the winners and reward their efforts."
About Mission X
Mission X is an international educational project by ESA and other space agencies from around the world. Its goal is to introduce children to space, space travel, science and technology. In 2025, a record-breaking 5,765 Dutch children participated over the course of six weeks.
Space Expo organizes Mission X for the Netherlands on behalf of the Netherlands Space Office (NSO) as part of the ESERO program. ESERO is an initiative by ESA and the NSO to develop educational materials on space travel and support teachers in primary and secondary education.
