Group packages nostalgia: A spacejourney through time
Space Expo has developed a special programme for seniors! In this programme, we take you on an unforgettable journey through time. Marvel once again at remarkable milestones such as the launch of the Sputnik 1 satellite, the first exciting spacewalk and of course the very first step on the Moon. We also look ahead: the past and the future truly come together!
Programme (2 hours)

- Film in the Ariane Hall (30 min): Joos Ockels, the wife of astronaut Wubbo Ockels, takes you on a whirlwind tour of several groundbreaking moments in the history of spaceflight. She also talks about the great importance of space exploration. The compilation of video clips, combined with Joos's inspiring words, will evoke a strong sense of recognition!

ISS
But how realistic is that and what do we hope to achieve there? How do you even begin something as ambitious as colonising a planet and what challenges are involved? This lecture provides an overview of the knowledge we have gained about Mars, how we acquired that knowledge and the challenges that future astronauts travelling to Mars will face.
The International Space Station (ISS) is the largest and most expensive space project to date. For many years, it has been the destination for astronauts. It is a place where they work together and conduct research into the effects of long-term stays in space on the human body and on materials. It was the first serious step towards the future human exploration of the universe.
Mars, the Red Planet, has fascinated humanity for centuries. Many questions surround Mars and the fascination continues to this day. There are even plans to colonise this distant world.
In this lecture, we take you through the history of this international collaboration: the origins of the station, its construction and expansion and of course a tour of the ISS itself. What are scientists researching on board the station, and what is it like to live and work in a laboratory orbiting the Earth at an altitude of 400 kilometres?
Back to the Moon
This lecture first introduces you to the Moon before exploring the Apollo missions. How did we visit the Moon in the past, and what did we learn from those missions? It then takes an in-depth look at NASA’s new plans: the Artemis programme. What do these plans involve, is everything on schedule and where do things stand today? But perhaps more importantly: why are we actually going back?
The Apollo missions of the 1960s and 1970s are world-famous. They were the result of a space race that was spectacularly won by the United States with the first footsteps, words and flag on the Moon. Our Moon was visited several more times afterwards, but since 1972 no one has set foot on it again.
That is about to change: a new race to the Moon has begun. NASA has the ambitious plan of returning humans to the Moon before 2030. This time, the goal is to seriously pursue the colonisation of the Moon. And NASA is not the only organisation with such plans.
Mars: the red planet
Mars, the red planet, has fascinated humanity for centuries. Many questions about Mars remain unanswered, and our fascination with this distant world continues to grow. There are even plans to colonize Mars. But how realistic is this ambition and what would we actually be looking for there? How do you begin something as ambitious as colonizing a planet and what challenges does it involve?
This lecture provides an overview of our current knowledge of Mars, how we have acquired that knowledge and the challenges future astronauts will face on their journey to and stay on Mars. By the end of the lecture, you will be able to make an informed decision about whether a trip to—and life on—Mars might be for you!

Lecture André Kuipers
André Kuipers is the first Dutch astronaut to have completed two space missions. In total, the ESA astronaut spent 204 days in space: 11 days during mission DELTA in 2004 and 193 days during mission PromISSe.
After years of training in Houston, Moscow, Cologne, Montreal and Tokyo, André was launched for the second time on 21 December 2011 aboard a Russian Soyuz rocket, together with a Russian and an American colleague. Two days later, he arrived at the International Space Station (ISS), where he lived and worked for six months. On board, he served not only as a physician and scientist, but also as a flight engineer and maintenance technician. On 1 July 2012, André returned to Earth, landing in the Kazakh steppe in his space capsule. His second mission remains the longest European spaceflight in history.
André Kuipers speaks to a wide variety of audiences, ranging from young to old and from many different backgrounds. Drawing on his experience, he can focus on various aspects related to the world of human spaceflight, depending on the audience's interests.

Show Judy Lijdsman
You're Too Cute to Be an Astronaut is a personal, humorous and moving one-woman show by Judy Lijdsman about taking up space and about equality, courage and encouragement, inspired by the story of NASA's second female astronaut, Judy Resnik. It is possible to book a special version of this performance in combination with an event at Space Expo.
Be launched back to the 1980s and meet Judy Resnik: NASA's second female astronaut. Who was this brilliant engineer, who was often portrayed by the outside world primarily as a woman because of her attractive appearance?
You're Too Cute to Be an Astronaut is a journey through time and space. From Judy's application to the Space Shuttle programme, NASA's rigorous selection process and the media circus surrounding the first female astronauts, to the nerve-racking launch of Challenger. It is 28 January 1986, an ice-cold day. Then, suddenly, this space journey takes an unexpected turn.
Actress and comedian Judy Lijdsman intertwines the story of astronaut Judy Resnik with her own personal experiences in a humorous and moving stand-up biography. A captivating one-woman show filled with space facts, colourful characters, astonishing anecdotes and, between the lines, an urgent plea for equality.

Conditions
- Guided tours, packages and lectures are available by reservation only and subject to availability.
- Guided tours, packages and lectures cannot be booked during public holidays, weekends or school holidays.
- We must receive the final number of guests no later than 5 working days before the reservation date. This number will be considered the minimum number of guests for billing purposes. Any increases can be communicated up to 48 hours before the visit.
- Subject to availability, we can provide a maximum of 3 guides simultaneously for a guided tour and 1 guide for a lecture.
- Reservations can be cancelled free of charge up to one week before the visit date. Please note that cancellations can only be made in writing via reserveringen@space-expo.nl.
- In the event of a late cancellation, we will be obliged to charge the full amount of the reservation. In the case of a no-show, the total reservation amount (guide, admission, guided tour and administration costs) will be charged.
