Noctilucent clouds
In June, you can see noctilucent clouds! These beautiful clouds are recognizable by their blue/silver color and herringbone structure. We’d love to tell you how they form and when you should definitely cast your eyes upward!

How do they form?
Although it looks like the clouds are glowing, they aren't. This phenomenon occurs at an altitude of 75 to 85 km, where temperatures drop to around -120 degrees. Because of the cold, ice crystals form on dust particles (for example, from comets). So, there is a core of dust surrounded by a layer of ice. When sunlight reflects off these, it looks as if the clouds are lighting up!
How to spot them
To see noctilucent clouds, there should be almost no 'normal' cloud cover. The clearer, the better! Noctilucent clouds are only visible in the evening/night, once the sun has set. Around June 21st, they can be seen between 11:00 PM and 3:00 AM.
