Joos Ockels to give lectures at Space Expo in 2026
On October 30, 1985, Wubbo Ockels (1946 – 2014) became the first Dutch person to fly into space. To celebrate this historic milestone, Space Expo has opened a new temporary exhibition: Wubbo Ockels: Astronaut of Spaceship Earth. The exhibition was developed in collaboration with Joos Ockels, Wubbo's wife. Furthermore, in 2026, Joos will give a lecture at Space Expo, offering an additional, exclusive look into Wubbo's space journey.
The lecture will be held on four Sundays.
- Sunday, January 25, 2026, from 2 PM - 3 PM
- Sunday, March 22, 2026, from 2 PM - 3 PM
- Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 2 PM - 3 PM
- Sunday, November 8, 2026, from 2 PM - 3 PM
In the lecture, Joos shares how the space journey changed Wubbo's perspective on Earth forever. It inspired him to dedicate himself to sustainability, innovation and education. Joos continues this mission today. She will talk about our ecological footprint and the various scenarios of climate change. How can we become more sustainable? So much is possible through innovation! Be inspired by Wubbo’s mission during this lecture: love the Earth and share it with each other and with nature.

- Cost: 8 euros per ticket. The proceeds from these lectures will benefit the renovation of Space Expo and the Grandparents for the Climate foundation.
- Ticket: You can book a ticket up to 3 months in advance on our ticket page, in combination with an admission ticket for the museum.
