Solar eclipse
For the first time in over a decade, a total solar eclipse will be visible from Europe. The eclipse will take place in the evening, between 7:17 PM and 9:03 PM. In Spain and Portugal, the sun will be completely obscured. In the Netherlands and Belgium, the sun will be 90% obscured.

How does it happen?
A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the earth. When they are perfectly aligned, the moon completely blocks the sun's rays.
Viewing safely
Only view the solar eclipse using eclipse glasses (available for purchase at Space Expo) or binoculars/a telescope fitted with a special solar filter. This is the only way to properly protect your eyes from ultraviolet and infrared radiation. Without the proper protection, looking directly at the sun can cause retinal damage.
