Lecture Joos Ockels
On November 8, 2026, Joos Ockels will give a lecture at Space Expo, offering an extra, exclusive look into Wubbo Ockels' space mission.
On October 30, 1985, Wubbo Ockels (1946 – 2014) became the first Dutch person to travel into space. To honor this historic milestone, Space Expo has opened a new temporary exhibition: Wubbo Ockels: Astronaut of Spaceship Earth. The exhibition was developed in collaboration with Joos Ockels, Wubbo's wife. On November 8, 2026 Joos will give a lecture at Space Expo, providing an even deeper, exclusive insight into Wubbo's space journey.
About the lecture
In this lecture, Joos shares how the space mission changed Wubbo's perspective on Earth forever. It inspired him to dedicate himself to sustainability, innovation and education. Joos continues this mission today. She will talk about our ecological footprint and the various scenarios of climate change. How can we become more sustainable? There is so much possible through innovation!

- Date + time: The lecture will take place on Sunday, November 8, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
- Location: The lecture will be held in the Ariane Hall at Space Expo. Our staff will be happy to show you the way!
- Cost: 8 euros per ticket. The proceeds from this lecture will benefit the renovation of Space Expo and the Grandparents for the Climate foundation.
- Ticket: You can book a ticket up to 3 months in advance on our ticket page, in combination with a museum entry ticket.
