Exhibition Artemis II

For the first time in more than fifty years, astronauts are travelling to the Moon. This will take place in spring 2026 as part of the Artemis II mission. The initiative is a collaboration between NASA and, among others, the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA). Space Expo is marking this special occasion with a temporary exhibition, on display from 5 February 2026.

About Artemis

NASA began preparations for the new Artemis lunar programme in 2011. The aim is to return to the Moon for scientific research, economic opportunities and to inspire new generations.

The first Artemis mission was successfully completed in 2022. During this mission, the SLS rocket and the Orion spacecraft were extensively tested. The uncrewed rocket travelled to the Moon, orbited it, and safely returned to Earth.

The second Artemis mission is similar to the first, but this time four astronauts will be on board: Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen. The launch of Artemis II is scheduled for 2026 and the mission will last ten days.

With Artemis III, astronauts will actually land on the Moon; this mission is currently planned for 2027.

What can you see in the exhibition?

In the exhibition, Space Expo tells the story of the new ‘race to the Moon’. Other space agencies also have major ambitions! We explain why these journeys are so important.

Most attention is given to Artemis II. This mission is already considered an iconic moment in the history of space exploration. Visitors can marvel at texts, images and remarkable objects. These include scale models of the SLS rocket and the Orion capsule. You will also learn all about the astronauts, Dutch solar panels and future missions.

Finally, we look back at the Apollo era. On display are tools, a Moon rock and a gigantic full-scale (1:1) model of the Eagle lunar module.

The exhibition can be seen at Space Expo until 31 May 2026.
